Providing target group-oriented information about the consequences of climate change for Bremen and the possibilities for adaptation is therefore one of the central tasks of the State Office for Climate Change Adaptation.

Measures for adapting to climate change can be supported through a financial programme from the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE). Public institutions in the state of Bremen, companies that implement public administration tasks, as well as non-profit institutions and associations are eligible for the programme. In addition to financial support, the State Office for Climate Change Adaptation supports other actors in the planning and implementation of climate change adaptation measures through advisory service and also develops new project ideas itself.

In April 2018, the State of Bremen and the two municipalities of Bremen and Bremerhaven have adopted the Climate Adaptation Strategy, which sets the long-term framework for how the impacts of climate change can be effectively limited. The Climate Adaptation Strategy is updated every five years to reflect the implementation of the strategy to date, integrate the most recent climate science and to adapt targets and key measures to ongoing climate change.
